Hey, nothing arrogant about aspiring to someone great so long as you someday move on to aspiring simply to be the absolute best you can be. Perhaps that might even exceed the someone great you once aspired to. Once upon a time, I too started out thinking that someday, I wanted to and would write something that was worthy of sitting on the shelves alongside my favorite authors. No harm in that so long as you don’t continue to write solely for the purpose of bragging rights! Lol. But then, even if someone did, arrogant thought it would be, what would be the harm? At any rate, I hope the anthology will have pieces that will delight. I know not everyone will like every piece; they’re quite varied, and those who prefer traditional dystopian may not be as fond of some of the less traditional ones. But we made it clear in the foreword that variety was there so that no one could claim to be blindsided with due cause to complain. 🙂

But that was a very impressive interview, so if you can keep your standards that high … go for it!

I must admit one of Steven’s comments set me back on my heels: “I started thinking about The Lord of the Rings … Out of nowhere, I said to myself, “I should write something like that someday.” I was torn between 1) What incredible arrogance! 2) He was too young at the time to realise what a masterpiece LOTR is! 3) I’d better read Iron Walls and see if he is actually as good as he thinks he is!

I concluded that 3) was the best course to follow!
Barry

It was definitely a unique one on the blog! First time I’ve hosted an author who was openly feminist and LGBTQ+ supportive, but I was glad to have her on. She pulled off an impressive feat in creating a story that had strong feminist themes but didn’t make me want to tear my hair out after reading it. It was interesting to hear why the story came about as it did! She delves more into the philosophy side of it over on my other blog, if that’s something you’re interested in.

Astrid sounds intriguingly complex .. Swedish, German, apartheid South African, LGBTQ+ mother, feminist and succourer of Muslim immigrants to Sweden. I look forward to seeing how all that translates into her work.

And you didn’t even ask anyone how your story should develop. Well done!

The other day, my dad made a reference to Friday from Robinson Crusoe, and not one of my siblings got it. XP I was stunned… Because we’ve all at least read one version or another of the book or have seen movies based on it. (I might be the only one who read the book, though.) People really don’t read these days, and it’s sad. They’re missing out.

It is rather sad that so many people are incapable of perceiving nuance. The closest town to my mountaintop is Mudgee, which was settled in 1856, then essentially bypassed for the next century, so it became very isolated and inbred … sort of Australia’s answer to Deliverance. A few years back I was at a small shopping complex when a car pilled in beside me with personalised number plates reading CRUSOE. “I’ll bet your family name is Robinson” sez I. The driver grinned and replied “You know … I’ve been driving this car around here for seven years and that’s the first time anyone has ever noticed!”. “Perhaps they don’t read Daniel Defoe” sez I. “Perhaps they don’t read” he returned.

Lol. Glad someone caught it. 🙂 Atlas has to rise after he shrugs.
